San Antonio, TX – The San Antonio Philharmonic brings San Antonio the official world premiere of Juan Gabriel: A Philharmonic Tribute, a groundbreaking symphonic celebration honoring the life and music of one of Mexico’s most iconic artists. This historic concert series takes place September 12 & 13 at 7:30 PM and September 14 at 2:30 PM at Scottish Rite Hall.
Under the direction of award-winning Mexican conductor Felipe Tristán, newly appointed Associate Conductor of the San Antonio Philharmonic, this is his first concert leading the orchestra in his new role. The program features Juan Gabriel’s greatest hits, masterfully reimagined for full symphony orchestra, guest vocalists, and mariachis, creating an immersive, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
A WORLD-PREMIERE EXPERIENCE
Through a special licensing agreement with Virgin Music and Sony Music, audiences will experience Juan Gabriel’s original voice and image projected on stage, accompanied live by the San Antonio Philharmonic, a rare and exclusive presentation celebrating his enduring legacy.
The concert will feature a lineup of guest vocalists:
Rubén Núñez - Latin Grammy-nominated mariachi vocalist and trumpet player
Chayito Champion - Internationally acclaimed flamenco vocalist and San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame inductee
Corey Waldron - Renowned mariachi vocalist and educator
Rhonda Garcia - Trailblazing mariachi performer and mentor
Supporting the program are guest mariachi ensembles, showcasing San Antonio’s rich cultural traditions:
Mariachi Los Paisanos (UTSA), directed by Michael Acevedo
Mariachi Engranaje Azul (Lanier High School), directed by José Luis Núñez
Mariachi Origen y Tradición (Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center), directed by Gino Rivera

The program includes Juan Gabriel’s most beloved hits, such as:
Buenos días señor Sol, Ya lo sé que tú te vas, Así fue, Querida, Abrázame muy fuerte, Hasta que te conocí, Te lo pido por favor, Amor eterno, Noa Noa, and more.
Special arrangements are provided by legendary composer Eduardo Magallanes, who crafted Juan Gabriel’s original orchestrations, alongside arranger Erick Pico, bringing fresh, vibrant interpretations to the stage.

The San Antonio Philharmonic invites school groups of middle, high school and college age to attend free-admission Open Rehearsals at the Scottish Rite. Students will see and hear how a professional ensemble rehearses while being exposed to masterpieces of the Classics Series repertoire and world-class guest artist performances.
Open Rehearsals reservations are open only to educators and are designed for students grades 6 and above (age 11+). All educational groups must reserve in advance prior to the Thursday before the performance dates by emailing education@saphil.org.

San Antonio, TX – La Filarmónica de San Antonio presenta el estreno mundial oficial de Juan Gabriel: Un Tributo Filarmónico, una innovadora celebración sinfónica que honra la vida y la música de uno de los artistas más icónicos de México. Esta histórica serie de conciertos se llevará a cabo los días 12 y 13 de septiembre a las 7:30 PM y el 14 de septiembre a las 2:30 PM en el Scottish Rite Hall.
Bajo la dirección del premiado director mexicano Felipe Tristán, recientemente nombrado Director Asociado de la Filarmónica de San Antonio, este será su primer concierto en su nuevo cargo. El programa presenta los grandes éxitos de Juan Gabriel, reinterpretados magistralmente para orquesta sinfónica completa, con destacados vocalistas invitados y grupos de mariachis, creando una experiencia inmersiva e irrepetible.
